Fun Fact: You know green beans are ripe when they stick to your shirt!

This past Sunday, a small group of Slow Foodies woke up bright and early to venture over to the Morven Kitchen Garden– the first of many garden workdays we have planned this semester! Although there was a mix of new people and veterans to the garden, everyone was excited to get their hands dirty and help out with the one-acre student-run garden.

What was a productive morning of pulling and harvesting, the team left with bags brimming with the greens of their labor.

Tomatoes, green beans, okra, and even wildflowers were just a few of the goods we had the chance to bring home – let’s just say there was a lot of green tomatoes and okra being fried that night!

Thank you to all who came out and helped to kick off, what should be, an exciting year for Slow Food at UVa! Hopefully we’ll get to see you all at our Welcome Garden Party tomorrow, September 12th, from 6:30 to 8pm at Garden IX. Relay Foods will be sponsoring food catered by Mona Lisa Pasta!! Yum 🙂
